Planning, Design and Construction Coordination

The role of an experienced medical equipment consultant is to provide constant review and oversight of the equipment process. Mitchell is involved in a variety of different projects, bringing best practices, lessons learned and equipment recommendations to optimize work flow.  Timelines for finalizing decisions on fixed equipment are proactively managed through critical path scheduling and planning for future flexibility.  Mitchell is at the forefront of innovations in medical technology and new models for patient care.

Whether planning an inpatient room, an operating room, or other support space, clients rely on Mitchell to manage the entire spectrum of coordinating equipment with the built environment and managing the procurement and installation process to bring the project to completion under budget and ahead of schedule.

We believe implementation is a dynamic process – and we must work collaboratively to create a set of comprehensive and coordinated plans.

Revit and Database Systems

Mitchell’s proprietary database includes a library of manufacturer specific products including cut sheets, specifications, product recalls, vendor site planning guides, and a constant flow of final purchasing costs.  The database has a wide range of project reports to support the different phases of planning, procurement, and move/installation related services based on the client’s needs.  Reports can sort the equipment list by item, by room, by department, or by manufacturer. They can compare projects and filter or hide values to meet a range of client needs.  All of our reports are exportable to excel or PDF at any time.

Mitchell was the first equipment planning firm to embrace Revit, and delivers 100% of our projects in Revit. Mitchell’s BIM model provides accurate equipment dimensions, clearances, blocking, power, plumbing and ventilation requirements.

Service and Deliverables

Mitchell works interactively with each team to define project specific needs that align with the phases of planning, including:

  • Programming/Master Planning
  • Schematic/Concept Design
  • Design Development
  • Construction Documents
  • Construction Coordination Phase

Mitchell provides equipment expertise during user reviews, site visits, mockups, and visioning sessions to assess the impact of new medical technology. Equipment planners lead detailed planning sessions to review the equipment list, confirm locations, review existing versus new equipment, and make recommendations as appropriate to meet the needs of the project.

Throughout these phases, Mitchell's team includes a project manager, planner, BIM planner, and coordinators to support the development of equipment lists, estimates, drawings, and deliverables to support the design and construction teams.
